At Sehulea health centre on Normanby Island (we saw 18 mothers). We unloading baby bundles at Sehulea. Each white bag contains 2 mother and baby gifts. We can carry 40 at a time. Our Beaver attracts kids so safety tape keeps them away from playing with the ‘big bird’ as they call her. We air lifted one seriously ill patient in the ward at Sehulea out to Alotau yesterday on our return.
Sehulea is one of our success stories. Before we started staff training, mother incentives to have their babies in the health centre instead of the village, waiting house for mothers and now medivac capability, Sehulea typically recorded 4-5 deaths a year. Now they record none or perhaps one village death.
